I participated in the Orexigen study and lost 53lbs (beginning weight was 196.5 at 5′5′”) in the 48 weeks. I am not aware of any ongoing studies but I would recommend googling Orexigen to see. Unfortunately that was 2 years ago and I have regained 30 lbs and struggle to keep from gaining more. I did have mild side effects – but none that were intolerable or not well worth the weight loss. I am currently trying to find a doctor willing to prescribe the two separate medications – Zonegran (zonisimide generic) and Wellbutrin (buproprion generic). This combination also greatly reduced my migraine frequency, yet I still am unable to get an RX. I hope Excalia makes it though the FDA soon and we see it become readily available.

If there is a UK trial I would like to try it. I have been told I have a slow metabolism and that is before the brain realises that I am trying to diet. I am losing weight very slowly at the moment so a metabolism boost is just what I need. I can’t wait years.
